‘Step Up 3D’ premieres in theaters this Friday, August 6th. I went to a screening last night and well, it’s amazing! It was one of those films where the audience kept clapping and whistling and yelling. Yep, they were loud but it was so much fun.
I saw some people on twitter knocking the fact that they did a dance movie in 3D. What do I have to say about that? Don’t knock it till you see it people! Seriously, it was amazing. The dance moves, the story, the message of the whole movie…it’s one you should see. The fact that it’s in 3D, makes the dance moves ‘in-your-face’ dance moves. And if you have even one inkling of a desire to dance, this movie will set your desire into over-drive. I can promise you that.
Adam Sevani plays Moose (pictured on the right) and reprises his Step Up 2: The Streets role in ‘Step Up 3D’. I loved his character! That boy can move and he’s hilarious. There’s one line in the movie where he talks about how dance gave a skinny, curly haired kid hope. I love that line.
I had the chance to chat with Adam about the movie. He’s so down-to-earth and was a lot of fun to talk to. We talked about the movie, how he got into dance and he mentioned a project he is working on with Miley Cyrus.
Without further ado…Mr. Adam G. Sevani.
mod: Hey Adam, Thanks for talking with me today!
Adam: You’re welcome.
mod: You played Moose in Step Up 2: The Streets and now are reprising your role in Step Up 3D. Tell me about your character.
Adam: Yeah, Moose is back again and is at NYU. He’s going to college now. In this movie, he’s stopped dancing and he’s just grown up now. He’s just dealing with the struggle of what he wants to do in life, who Moose really is. That’s actually what the whole movie is about.
mod: How did you fall in love with dancing and turn it into a career?
Adam: Well, I didn’t end up, it kind of ended up on me. I kind of grew up dancing my whole life. My dad was a dancer, and he and I basically grew up in a dance studio. All these dancers that are in the movie, I grew up watching them and was inspired by them. Then when we were on set together, we were just hanging out..dancing, just doing what we already do, but in front of the camera. It was just super cool being able to hang out with them and make this movie.
mod: Did you take any professional dance classes growing up?
Adam: I did. I started off taking classical and doing modern stuff, not so much hip hop. As I got older, I was introuduced to it and got into it that way.
mod: What’s Step Up 3D about in a few sentences?
Adam: ‘Step Up 3D’ is probably the best dance movie ever made. That’s probably all I need to say.
mod: Well that works for me! What was it like filming a movie in 3D? How was it different from a regular movie?
Adam: It really wasn’t that different at all. It just takes more time. You spend a lot of time waiting for the cameras to load up. It’s pretty much the same exact thing, it’s just that the results are different.
mod: What’s your favorite scene in Step Up 3D?
Adam: You know what, I’ve been asked that and I really don’t have one. All of them are so equally good. I can’t really tell you that I like this particular scene better than that one.
mod: I have a feeling that after kids see this movie, they are going to fall in love with dance. What advice would you give kids wanting to get into something like that and pursue their passion?
Adam: I would just say that if you have a drive for it, a passion for it why not. Just recently, I had a lady come up to me and tell me that her daughter didn’t want to get into dance because she was over weight. But when she saw Step Up 2, she was inspired to just go for it and she lost around 25 pounds because of it. It’s definitely inspiring and a motivation for me, not just as a performer, but as a person. I almost feel like I am helping people in some way.
If you have a passion for anything, not just dancing, just do that. Just got for it, if you have the drive.
mod: When are we going to see you again? Do you have any upcoming projects you can tell us about?
Adam: Yes. I can tell you that I am working on something with Miley [Cyrus] right now. It’s a project called ‘LOL’ but that’s all I can tell you.
mod: Awesome! Can’t wait to hear more about that. Thanks for talking with me Adam!
Adam: No problem.
