Daniel Radcliffe has taken top honors as Entertainment Weekly’s 2011 Entertainer of the Year! Check out Daniel on the cover, which hits newsstands Friday, December 9th.

Daniel Radcliffe was a shoo-in for the top slot. He wrapped up the beloved Harry Potter franchise, which ultimately grossed $7.7 billion worldwide. He also showed off a new set of skills –singing! dancing! – on Broadway. “When it becomes clear to me that something is going to be really hard work, there’s a voice inside my head that says, “You shouldn’t probably do this, because you probably can’t do this”—but there’s another, much louder voice that becomes bullying and belligerent and wants to prove that other voice wrong,” says Radcliffe.

The How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying star is still amazed by his newly acquired skills. “When I first met with the director, I said, “The singing I’ve been working on for a while. But you won’t get me to dance,” recalls Radcliffe. “Please erase any idea of that happening from your mind.” He said, “We have a year— let’s see what you can do then.” And it turns out you can do quite a lot if you just put the hours in. But it was 11 months of nonstop fear, 11 months of “Oh, God, I’m still not good at this.” I say this with no false modesty: I come off stage every night and still go, “I can’t believe I did that.”

This was the year that Daniel Radcliffe put away his wand and slipped on his dancing shoes. It was the year Brad Pitt ran a baseball team and Viola Davis hit a home run. It was the year Trey Parker and Matt Stone did unspeakable things on Broadway—and Melissa McCarthy sat on a sink. The following performers wowed us beyond words.

So for this year’s Entertainers of the Year issue, Entertainment Weekly asked people like Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, and Sandra Bullock to write about them for us. Turns out they were pretty wowed too.

This is one amazing issue! Get yours tomorrow.
