Jennifer Lawrence wins Supporting Actress BAFTA for American Hustle

The 2014 Bafta for best supporting actress has gone to Jennifer Lawrence for her role in American Hustle.

Lawrence was unable to attend the ceremony due to filming commitments, but the prize was received on her behalf by the film’s director, David O Russell. He read acceptance speech in which Lawrence thanked her fellow actors, writers and the director himself and celebrated the opportunity to enact “heartbreak, romance, rebirth, music and life”.

She beat the much-fancied Lupita Nyong’o, who was nominated for her role in 12 Years a Slave. The award was presented by Leonardo DiCaprio who said he “was completely blown away” by the talent in the category.

Pictures from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Willow Shields and Jennifer LawrenceJennifer Lawrence and Willow Shields don’t just play sisters in The Hunger Games — to each other, they feel like they’re sisters in real life, too. At least, according to what Willow told E! News on the red carpet at Catching Fire’s LA premiere.

Jennifer Lawrence: ‘Madame Figaro’ Cover Girl

Jennifer Lawrence: 'Madame Figaro' Cover GirlJennifer Lawrence looks chic as ever on the cover of Madame Figaro magazine‘s latest issue, available online now!

The 23-year-old actress chatted with the French magazine about her success as an actress, her childhood, and more. Check out some quotes from her interview that have been translated into English:

On wanting a normal life when off screen: “I want my life is as normal as possible. One of the dangers in the film industry is that things are too fast, aging and depriving have lived. I do not want to burn the stages of my life. I want to keep it simple, you see, I do not have an assistant. One that helps me is my best friend. At the end of a day of shooting, I can go home and hang out with her, do what we do in 22 years … and not share time with someone who works for me.”

On her childhood: “My nickname was ‘Nitro’ as nitroglycerin. I was hyperactive, curious about everything. When my mother told me about my childhood, she always told me there was like a light in me, a spark that inspired me constantly. When I entered the school, the light went out. We never knew what it was, a kind of social anxiety. But I had friends.”

Jennifer Lawrence chops her hair ahead of Hunger Games: Catching Fire London Debut

Jennifer Lawrence's New Hair CutNo one—not even Jennifer Lawrence—can endlessly dry, dye, highlight, straighten and curl their hair without repercussions.

The inevitable damage resulting from over-processing one’s hair is part of why the Hunger Games: Catching Fire star got her hair cut into a short pixie ‘do.

The other reason? “My hair couldn’t get any uglier,” she quipped during a Yahoo “Fireside Chat” on Thursday, Nov. 7.

“I don’t know, I cut it earlier, and it was just kind of like [shoulder-length] and it grew to that awkward, gross length,” said the actress, who wore a chic black and white ensemble paired with a spike lariat necklace by Sydney Evan for the occasion.

“I just kept putting it back in a bun, and I said, ‘Well I don’t want to do this,’ so I just cut it off.” Jennifer Lawrence Shows Off New Do
